Stunning family-run guesthouse with infinity pool and accommodation in wooden bungalows with all comforts and a very affordable price.
Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak
Fantastic resort-style hotel in Seminyak, perfectly located for Double Six beach!
Night market in Tabanan, a medium-sized town about half an hour from Canggu. Perfect for street food - try Martabak, a flatbread filled with veggies, and Bakso, soup with chicken balls. So good!
Popular sunset location in Echo Beach. Lovely view and friendly service, but it’s busy!
Delicious Italian/Indonesian fusion warung also offering gourmet Indonesian classics. Far from the Canggu crowds!
Sea Breeze Bar & Restaurant
Good food (both Indonesian and international) and nice beachside location, it gets 4 stars just because it’s quite cramped. It’s fun to play around on the swings and pools though!
Nice place for a drink on Mushroom Beach, with beers and fresh smoothies as well as a vast menu. It’s fun to sit and watch life going on along the beach.
A nice warung in the mangroves area of Nusa Lembongan, with a small private beach and a swing.
nusa ceningan.lembongan.klungkung, Indonesia
A real gem of a restaurant in Nusa Ceningan, serving tasty Thai and Indonesian food. The location is also really nice, in a small garden.
Tasty warung offering a range of Indonesian favorites in Tumbak Bayuh, the least touristy part of Canggu! The nasi goreng is one of the best we’ve had in Bali.
Fantastic option for lunch in Jimbaran! Buy fresh fish at the market then have it grilled for an extra 15 or 20K at one of the nearby warung, like Warung Hawaii.
This warung near Jatiluwih rice terraces has the best views ever and wonderful nasi goreng made with red rice!
Pangkon Bali Rumah Makan & Agrotourism
Desa Manukaya, Indonesia
Nice location and good fried chicken, but it loses marks because they’ve got caged civet cats for Luwak coffee!
The restaurant of Alaya Resort in Ubud, offering free afternoon tea to guests. The menu also looks nice, but we didn’t have a chance to eat there.
Bebek Bengil (Dirty Duck Diner)
Really nice fried duck but the setting is very touristy and the prices are a bit excessive.
Ice Cream Shop
The best coconut ice cream in Ubud! Topped with caramelised coconut, coconut brittle and fresh coconut pulp!
Really nice Babi Guling (roast suckling pig), but we don’t recommend visiting because they have caged animals and chained birds.
Warung in Ubud run by a NGO providing help and care to people in need. Food is also good - try the red curry!
Delicious breakfasts in a ‘hipster’ atmosphere for less than 50K! A favorite of expats and digital nomads in Canggu!
Quite simply, the best burgers in Bali! Great meat and vegetarian options.
Great sunset bar on Double Six beach, much cheaper than more famous places like La Plancha but just as chilled and with perfect sunset view!
Legendary beach bar in Seminyak, busy but fun! It loses one star because the music was too loud, and because nearby beach bars are a bit cheaper!
The Seminyak outpost of famous Naughty Nuri in Ubud! Ribs and dirty Martini are simply the best in Bali!
Bottega Italiana Petitenget
Best Italian restaurant in Bali, with outlets also in Seminyak, Canggu, Berawa and soon to open in Pererenan!
Beach not far from Canggu but way less busy than the more famous Batu Bolong and Berawa. Recommended for sunset or a beach walk.
Stunning beach in southern Bali, not far from Uluwatu, but it’s fairly crowded and not much shade. The colour of the water is really lovely though and nice to swim, be careful of the waves!
Blue Point Beach (Pantai Suluban)
Lovely beach surrounded by cliffs in the vicinity of Uluwatu. It’s great both to swim and surf, and if you follow the beach heading left past the cliffs you’ll find a shipwreck.
Performing Arts Venue
Don’t miss visiting stunning Uluwatu temple, famous for its clifftop location and sunset kecak dance show, showcasing Hindu tales.
Lovely temple in Mengwi, about half an hour from Canggu, famous for its garden located just behind the main temple. Also visit nearby Mengwi market if you visit in the morning.
Kecamatan Nusapenida, Indonesia
Cliff side lookout with a blowhole and waves crashing, making water sprays. Be careful and don’t walk too close to the edge as the waves are very strong!
Beach resort on the northern side of Nusa Lembongan. Nice beach but there are better places both on Lembongan and on Ceningan.
The highest point in Nusa Lembongan, worth a visit for the view over the island.
Suspension Bridge Lembongan - Ceningan
Nusa Lembongan, Indonesia
This cool yellow bridge separates the islands Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan, and it can be crossed on foot or motorbike.
Scenic spot in Ceningan, check out the pristine blue waters!
Quite simply the best waterfall in Bali! Well worth the 500 steps to get there, since you’ll find next to no tourists!
A quiet Bali swing near Nungnung Waterfall, you can haggle the price of the swing down to 100K. It doesn’t get five stars as they had a Luwak in a cage, so by all means go for the swing but skip the coffee!
Quiet offbeat monkey forest near Sanger Village, a great alternative to the busy forest in Ubud!
These rice terraces are the perfect alternative to the more famous Tegalalang bear Ubud. They’re very big and there are next to no tourists!
Great place for souvenirs in Canggu! You can pick up unique bags and t-shirts, handicrafts, swimsuits, bamboo cutlery, coconut bowls and more. More ‘hipster’ and less touristy than other markets in Bali.
Tirta Gangga Water Palace
Stunning water palace, but the hordes of Instagram wannabes take a bit of the magic away. Still worth a visit though!
Desa Adat Tradisional Penglipuran (Balinese Traditional Village)
One of the prettiest local villages in Bali, it’s a bit touristy but worth the visit to appreciate Balinese architecture. Also try the green herbal drink made locally, every house will sell it!
Tirta Empul Temple (Pura Tirta Empul)
Kecamatan Tampaksiring, Indonesia
The famous water temple! If you want to join in the sacred pool, make sure you understand the procedure and are respectful at all times. It’s worth it!
Breathtaking temple on the lake, one of the most beautiful in Bali. Shame it was raining when tea visited!
Nice flat hiking trail in Ubud, about half an hour long and weaving through rice fields.
Puri Saren Ubud (Ubud Palace)
A good place to shop for souvenirs and handicrafts in Ubud, but the atmosphere is very touristy!
A short but sweet trail in the outskirts of Ubud running over a ridge, with views on forest and rice fields nearby.
The most beautiful water temple in Bali, far less busy than Tirta Empul. Get there early and be respectful of locals praying or conducting rituals.
Tanah Lot Temple (Pura Luhur Tanah Lot)
This is one of Bali’s most famous temples, located on a peninsula that becomes an island at high tide. Take time to visit both at high and low tide and try to be there early in the day (opening time is 7 am) to avoid crowds.
Wonderful dive center on Nusa Ceningan, run by a lovely Swiss lady. We went diving with them along the northern shore of Nusa Penida, great drift diving!
Nice beach near Canggu that’s usually less busy than Echo Beach. Sunday it’s with locals and you can also have some street food.
Our favorite adventure in Bali! Don’t miss hiking to the top of Mount Batur for sunrise, it’s worth the early wake up call!
Seminyak Beach (Pantai Seminyak)
Great sunset and surf beach if you’re staying in Seminyak, with plenty of beach bars!
